Abridged as a Genre

Image
So recently I've been thinking about the style of how anime/manga is drawn. The traditional thin figure and big anime eyes. But what if we shifted manga into a cartoonist style? Similar to that of My lesbian experience with loneliness or Cigarette Girl. I find the drawing style to be comedic and a bit on the parody side. Which leads to our next point of parodies, or abridged, as a genre. In some aspects we see different cartoons and manga pulling out the easter eggs and gems we see from classic anime. For example the famous 100 push ups and kamehame ha. As we as the famous line from "Fist of the North Star"- omae wa mou shindeiru... NANIN!?! So I did a video pull of the best anime parodies in managa, anime, and cartoons. Enjoy! Something About Smash Bros Hellsing Abridged

Akira

Image
Available Volumes For Purchase Akira was initially created by Katsuhiro Otomo but published by Kodansha. As the series was adapted into an animated feature film, seven studios collaborated together with a budget of 8-11 billion yen. After making an astonishing 45 million dollars in the west, Manga Entertainment was created. The amazing part about the company is that it brings over anime and films to be a part of western culture. Some popular anime and films include Naruto, Bleach, Ninja Scroll, and Millennium Actress. Collectively there are six volumes comprised of 300-500 pages. Setting the Stage - Considered to be the finest work of graphic fiction, Akira is set in a dystopian Neo-Tokyo as the city recovers from a thermonuclear attack. The streets are filled gangs and factions while the rich run different experiments that get out of control. Tetsuo, a young man with psychic abilities and anger issues, is the only one capable of stopping Akira. However, his powers and obse

Junji Ito

Image
Junji Ito became one of the world's most prolific horror manga artist.  Over the past 30 years, Ito has written over 38 manga titles, with the majority of them being horror. Although he considers himself a scardy-cat, Ito really enjoys ghost stories. In fact one of his stories were actually written about his cat; Cat Diary. I to became fascinated with horror in manga at an early age. During his childhood Ito would read the works of Kazuo Umezu and Shinichi Koga. Other works that highly inspired Ito were Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Exorcist. During the 70’s, occult films began to flourish which further peaked Ito’s interest for horror.      To capture the art style, Ito used his studies to research the human anatomy.  To get inspiration for the grotesque figures and imagery, he looked up photographs of human remains as well as studying the human decomposition cycle. In early 2018, a collection of Ito’s works were adapted into a mini anime series.

Shaman King

Image
Shaman King (Japanese: シャーマンキング Hepburn: Shāman Kingu) All 300 Volumes Shaman King is a manga that was created and written by Hiroyuki Takei . The manga follows a young shaman who wishes to become the Shaman King. Takei went on to make 300 volumes of a new topic that hasn't been done before. The manga was later produced into a 64 episode series that was produced by Xebec and ran on TV Tokyo. Shaman King follows a young shaman, Yoh Asakura, as he travels the world fighting misguided shamans and evil spirits. The drawing style for Shaman King is a bit exaggerated and wacky. The head for some characters are seems normal but the hands and feet are twice as large. My favorite chapter in the series is volume 12 when they introduce Lee Pyron. This character was a nod to the late martial artist Bruce Lee. From the creation of his fighting style to his untimely death. In Takei's interpretation, Lee Pyron's body was stolen and is being used by a misguided shaman to be her pupp
